In 2024, Tesla led global car sales with 1.79 million vehicles delivered, surpassing Audi, which sold 1.67 million cars. Despite experiencing its first annual delivery drop in over a decade, Tesla maintained its market leadership.
Audi, however, faced a 12% decline in sales, largely due to fierce competition and reduced demand for electric vehicles (EVs) in key markets like Europe and China.

Audi also struggled with its EV sales, which fell by 8%. To address this, the company made the difficult decision to cut production and shut down several of its manufacturing plants. This slowdown underscores the ongoing challenges car manufacturers, especially in the EV sector, are facing.
The dip in EV demand in Europe and China has affected multiple companies, forcing them to reassess their strategies. While Tesla remained at the top despite a drop in deliveries, Audi’s difficulties highlight the intense competition and changing dynamics within the automotive industry.
