In a bold step for enforcement of the traffic law police from the Islamabad Traffic Police have issued more than 150 challans within a week by using drones as surveillance devices.
According the CTO Chief (CTO) Lieutenant (retd) Zeshan Haider, this is the first time in Pakistan that drones are used to track and punish traffic violations. In the first seven days of operation drones recorded 208 violations which resulted in a total of 163 fines and forty-five warning letters.
The drone has proven to be extremely effective in observing important violations, such as red light violations, infractions to use of lane, and other traffic violations. Real-time monitoring of the aerial makes it possible to have more precise and more widespread enforcement.
The CTO has also announced plans to increase drone coverage across the nation’s capital, stating that sever actions will be taken against anyone who breaks traffic laws. He stressed that ensuring road security is of paramount importance and that those who violate the law will be punished with immediate penalties.
