On July 7, 2023, Shehbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, inaugurated the Land Information and Management System (LIMS) initiative. Ghulam Qadir, Pakistan’s Commercial Counselor in China, emphasized the pivotal role of agriculture in Pakistan’s economic framework. Qadir expressed eagerness for multifaceted collaboration with Dayu Group, highlighting the company’s notable achievements in flood prevention, disaster early warning systems, and rural sewage treatment.

Cui Jing, senior vice president of Dayu Group, echoed the sentiment of burgeoning partnership and mutual benefit. He noted the keen interest of Pakistani counterparts in Dayu’s rural sewage treatment initiatives in Tianjin and farmer drinking water safety projects in Ningxia. Jing underscored the potential expansion of these projects into Pakistan, envisaging a robust landscape of future collaborations between the two nations.

Pakistan grapples with persistent water scarcity issues. Apart from meeting residential needs, the nation allocates nearly three-quarters of its water resources to cultivate high-water-demand crops. Specifically, around 23 percent is directed towards wheat cultivation, 21 percent towards rice, 19 percent towards sugar cane, and 14 percent towards cotton. Notably, cotton, a crucial component of Pakistan’s textile industry, demands significant water resources due to its protracted growth cycle and affinity for water.

Amidst these endeavors, the northern metropolis of Tianjin grapples with resource-based water scarcity challenges. In recent years, Tianjin has zealously championed the cause of green manufacturing, striving to establish a comprehensive water-saving paradigm spanning from source to product within the industrial ecosystem.

This bilateral collaboration underscores a commitment to sustainable development, aiming to disseminate Tianjin’s well-honed expertise in “tridimensional water management” across agricultural water conservation, provision of safe drinking water for farmers, and rural sewage treatment.
